Etta James is a multi-talented African American singer and song writer. Some of her favorite music genres are blues, sole, R&B, rock & roll, gospel and jazz. Etta first began her singing career in Los Angeles, California at a small Baptist Church. In 1950, James’ teamed up with two young girls to start a doo-wop singing group and decided to brand themselves as ‘The Peaches.’ In 1955, Johnny Otis recognized the group and requested that they audition a few of their best songs to major record companies. Otis was impressed with ‘The Peaches’ talent and helped them continue to produce their songs with Modern Records. After the release of their first record “The Wallflower, ” the group immediately plummeted to number two on the Rhythm and Blues charts. The album was such a huge success that the R &B world picked up on their singing talent, and resulted with James going on tour with Little Richard. “The Wallflower” was instantly ranked number one on the R&B music charts. Unfortunately, during the mid 1950’s Etta and ‘The Peaches’ parted ways, but this made Etta even more confident and determined to become a singing sensation on her own. In 1961, Etta James collaborated with a string orchestra and created her signature song “At Last.” One year later, James had three additional hits and one of which was a gospel inspired song called “Something’s Got A Hold On Me.” Etta James continued her stardom into the new millennium, and in 2001 she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. In 2003 she received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2005, James released her final album “Let’s Roll.” The album then lead Etta James to walk away with a Grammy for ‘Best Contemporary Blues Album.’ Most recently, Etta James has been portrayed by Beyonce Knowles in the popular film “Cadillac Record.” In April 2009, Etta made a guest appearance on the television show “Dancing With The Stars” and performed her classic hit “At Last.” Tickets to see Etta James at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City are available now through ACTickets.com (http://www.actickets.com ).
