11th ANNUAL CENTRAL BROOKLYN JAZZ FESTIVAL

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC announces Brooklyn's longest continuous running jazz festival, 11th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, from April 1 thru April 30, 2010.  This festival will include the induction ceremony to the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday, April 29th.

CBJC's grass roots celebration of an American original art form (during Jazz Appreciation Month) pays homage to icons of Jazz who called Brooklyn home.  Max Roach, Eubie Blake, Betty Carter, Cal Massey, Lena Horne, Herbie Mann, Cecil Payne, Freddie Hubbard, and current native son Dr. Randy Weston are just a few of the musicians who refined or made their musical sound popular while living in this culturally rich borough of New York City.  Youth programs and educational forums are also an integral part of this Brooklyn jazz festival as well as great Jazz.

During the 10th annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival nearly 5,000 jazz enthusiasts from Belgium, Canada, Japan, Ireland, Atlanta, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, New Jersey, Long Island and yes even Manhattan, came to and stayed in Brooklyn to be part of this community driven festival underwritten by the forty (40) plus member organizations/individuals of CBJC.  Forty-three (43) concerts and programs were held in Midwood, Fort Greene, Bushwick, East New York, Crown Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, and Bedford-Stuyvesant sections of Brooklyn in April 2009.

Cultural institutions and venues participating in Brooklyn jazz festival 2009 included: Brooklyn Borough Hall, Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Afroart Designs, Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn Historical Society, BAMcafe Live, Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music at Brooklyn College, Solomon's Porch, Rustik Lounge, Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture-Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch, Sugar Hill Restaurant & Supper Club, Janes United Methodist Church, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza and Sistas' Place to name some.

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC founded in 1999, is an amalgam of patrons of jazz musicians, entertainment venues, faith based and community organizations.  Over the past ten (10) years CBJC has presented an annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame & Museum, and produced yearly programs that feature local jazz talent.  CBJC is a nonprofit corporation committed to preserving, promoting and supporting live music within the under served communities of Brooklyn.
